Involvement
The project consisted of the demolition supervising of the Fuel Storage Park facilities in Matosinhos, regarding the Petroleum-based Liquid Fuels (LPG) sector, more specifically the dismantling of the metal structures of the facilities, namely::
– Surface fuel cylinders;
– Surface fuel spheres;
– Wastewater treatment plant;
– Filling islands;
– Fuel handling circuit piping (LPG);
– Fire system piping;
– Various metal structures, such as: roofing, platforms, walkways, stairs, support structures, pipe supports, etc.;
– Electric and signal wiring, in copper with insulating coating, with and without protective metal frame.
Prior to the start of each phase of the decommissioning operation, inspections were carried out on the sites and structures to be intervened to verify the existing conditions and to validate the methods and sequence of planned work. Despite the complete deactivation and decommissioning process of the facility, great attention was paid to the detection of combustible products, contaminated waters and hazardous atmospheres in the structures to be removed. Properly calibrated hazardous atmosphere detectors and gas meters with CO, O2, H2S and LEL detection were used.
MWS’s intervention on the supervision of this project took place from the licensing process to the closure of the project, between April 2017 and August 2017.
